Lilia Ziamou Joins Global Artists at Contextile Biennial 2024
We are happy to announce that Lilia Ziamou will be participating in the renowned Contextile Biennial 2024. As a leading international event in contemporary textile art, Contextile transforms the Guimarães region into a vibrant hub of creativity, interaction, and collaboration among artists, communities, and industries.
Lilia Ziamou showcases the work ’The Bone’s Dressing: Bare Essentials #2’’. It enacts a series of transformations: the bone becomes flesh, while the flesh acquires the properties of a textile, folding over itself and moving beyond itself, thus challenging a whole history of fixed cultural determinations. Flesh becomes its own dress, annexing to itself a mode of representation proper to its intentions. Yet the body is wounded and marked by this metamorphosis, visible in the stitchings and bruisings of a concealed X-ray print. What happens when flesh is allowed to shape its own context, to harness its own capacity in self-touching? Touch ‘touches’ on essence. In allowing flesh and bone to shape their own form, I mean to challenge the notion of material and ideological fixity. Touch is both the site and the possibility of a new kind of knowledge to which the textile, and the procedures to which it is subjected, alludes.
Location: Guimarães, Portugal
