In studio with...Fatma Al Ali

NIKA Project Space takes you behind the scenes of artist Fatma Al Ali’s project, 'Arabian Department (2023),' which will be shown at the upcoming Menart Fair in Paris.

In her work, Al Ali explored the history of UAE agriculture. The artist came across the introduction of the orange carrot and the subsequent disappearance of the traditional purple carrot native to the region. To the artist the idea of a native purple carrot gradually vanishing over generations, this piece of information – though small – holds great significance, and she had never known about it.
