VISIO. Moving Images After Post-Internet

Palazzo Strozzi, Florence

13 November – 1 December 2019

The Strozzina at Palazzo Strozzi is currently hosting VISIO. Moving Images After Post-Internet,an exhibition dedicated to video art by 12 under-35 international artiststaking part in the VISIO – EuropeanProgramme on Artists’ Moving Images, a project promoted by Lo schermodell’arte film festival and curated by Leonardo Bigazzi.

The exhibition offers insight into the practice of ageneration of artists who witnessed the rise of the so-called “Post-Internetcondition” during the years of their education. This definition was adoptedtowards the end of the first decade of the 2000s to describe art that could nolonger avoid tackling the growing hyper-connectivity of the internet in termsof concept, production and distribution. The meaning of “Post-Internet” haschanged as quickly as the technology with which it was associated, becomingobsolete and controversial, and being reduced to the, often derogatory, formalcategorisation of a vast number of artworks. The digital revolution and theacceleration imposed by new media have deeply changed the language of movingimages and their exhibition styles. The show reflects on these transformationsand on the influence they had on this generation of artists, on the legacy ofthe Post-Internet phenomenon and on the possible reasons of its definitiveadieu.
